Porsche 99X Electric Race Car Joins Need for Speed Mobile in China

Porsche’s title-winning GEN3 99X Electric race car is making its virtual debut in the Chinese version of Need for Speed Mobile on August 21. Announced alongside Formula E’s ongoing partnership with Tencent, the integration brings real-world electric powertrain technology, kinetic energy recovery, and custom driving dynamics to millions of mobile gamers. The move comes as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship teams up with Tencent again after its recent launch in another major Chinese mobile game, Game for Peace.

From Formula E Championships to the Virtual Streets of Need for Speed

Porsche’s successful motorsport machine is transitioning from real-world tracks into the digital racing ecosystem. The GEN3 99X Electric car has been placed directly into the Hall of Legends – Hybrid & Electric Drive vehicle class within the Chinese version of Need for Speed Mobile. Players gaining access to the vehicle on August 21 will experience a specialized driving profile engineered specifically for high-speed street environments while mimicking the handling characteristics of Porsche’s official Formula E factory contender. That includes special handling features for drifting, cornering and acceleration.

Behind this digital crossover is an ongoing collaboration between the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and tech giant Tencent. Formula E executives view the rollout as a vital conduit to connect massive gaming populations with cutting-edge electric performance. Sanjay Shivaram, Brand Licensing & Retail Director at Formula E, noted that China remains a critical market for the racing series.

Company statement

“China is a key market for Formula E, and teaming up with Porsche to bring the Porsche GEN3 99X Electric to Need for Speed Mobile allows us to connect millions of gamers with the speed of electric performance, and this iconic automotive brand,” he said.

Recreating Real Porsche Powertrain Technology and Energy Recovery

Developers have mapped real-world automotive engineering straight into the game’s physics engine. One of the biggest links between the real Porsche Formula E car and its virtual version is the Energy Recovery System. The ERS is designed to replicate the 99X Electric’s real-world powertrain management. It provides a high-torque launch boost for 2.8 seconds from a standstill. During braking, handbrake turns and inertia drifts, the system collects kinetic energy.

Once stored, that captured power is then released within two seconds after a drift, creating a major nitrous boost. The energy recovery process temporarily lowers the car’s top speed before the stored power is released. Furthermore, the car’s Agile Drift Tuning allows players to carry higher entry speeds through tight corners and make sharper turn-ins. The car also has High Torque Endurance, which provides a higher base top speed, precise steering response and automatic nitrous accumulation while cornering.

“Tencent has brilliantly translated our real-world tech – such as kinetic energy recovery – into the game, and Need for Speed is one of the most famous racing franchises in the world, so we’re thrilled to be able to contribute to its journey,” he added.

Special In-Game Abilities and How Players Can Unlock the Vehicle

Beyond standard handling traits, the virtual race car grants distinct tactical advantages in Need for Speed Mobile’s Hot Pursuit mode. As a Street Racer, players using the Porsche can carry more tactical supplies because of its increased overall backpack capacity. As a Pursuit Team driver, the Porsche completely removes the helicopter cooldown timer while the car is being used, allowing continuous aerial surveillance over targets.

For players eager to acquire the vehicle, players will be able to unlock the Porsche GEN3 99X Electric from August 21 through the limited-time “Hall Treasures” event. The car can be unlocked using Hall Treasure Coupons, which can be collected through several limited-time mechanics available in the Events menu under Specials. This virtual integration gives Porsche’s Formula E car a new life away from the race track, bringing its electric performance and energy recovery technology to the virtual streets of Need for Speed Mobile.
