The United States Air Force is seeking military charges against Major Jason Watson after the active-duty officer was detained at the U.S. Capitol in July for publicly calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance over the US-Israel war on Iran.
Active-Duty Officer Faces Court-Martial Under Uniform Code
Major Jason Watson is facing military charges under the military justice system, as the United States Air Force said it is seeking charges against the active-duty officer following his public demonstrations.
Watson’s lawyer Christopher Mutimer said on Tuesday that the airman would face charges under three articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Among them is Article 88, a rarely used provision which accuses him of using contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress.

The Air Force confirmed Watson had been charged and said he would continue to be held in pre-trial confinement and be afforded the right to due process.
Capitol Protest and Media Appearances Sparked Military Action
The disciplinary proceedings stem from a series of high-profile political protests staged by the officer. Watson, an active-duty officer, was detained by police in his uniform in July on the steps of the US Capitol, where he had taken part in a protest holding a sign calling for Trump and Vance to be removed from office.
The protest, which was also attended by US lawmakers, was organised by activists from the group Removal Coalition, which said at the time that Watson was the first active duty officer in the military to call for Trump’s impeachment and removal from office. Following his arrest, Watson appeared earlier this month on CNN, where he again called for the removal of Trump, who, as president, serves as the commander in chief of the military.

Broader Political Backlash Over U.S.-Iran Policy
Right-wing conspiracy theorist and former InfoWars host Alex Jones publicly called for President Donald Trump’s immediate impeachment and removal via the 25th Amendment. Jones cited the administration’s aggressive military actions toward Iran and the support of a trillion-dollar National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) as unconstitutional, declaring, We are facing tyranny!
Jones stated that he was calling for it right then through the 25th Amendment, impeachment, or whatever needed to happen to bring the issue front and center and regain control of their country, during a livestream in which he claimed that a large-scale U.S. ground war in Iran is a fait accompli and alleged that the administration is preparing a military draft to sustain it. Declaring that the situation was absolutely out of control, Jones urged Congress to use whatever tools necessary—be it impeachment or the 25th Amendment—to wrest back control of the country. Other conservative commentators and figures, including Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, who previously championed Trump’s “America First” non-interventionist stance, have joined in criticizing the potential for an “extinction-level event” or a prolonged World War III in the Middle East. Jones is not alone on the right in expressing panic about the war’s trajectory amid escalating U.S.-Iran hostilities, which recently included an attempted Iranian ballistic missile surprise attack on U.S. forces after a brief pause in American airstrikes shattered. Conversely, some staunch Trump loyalists have fiercely condemned Jones’ statements, labeling his call for impeachment as an incredible act of disloyalty, as Donald Trump continues to face backlash from both sides over his war in Iran.
