Garmin has announced its rugged Fenix 9 smartwatch lineup, featuring a bright OLED base model starting at $999.99 with 50 percent more RAM, an upgraded map engine, and up to 29 days of battery life. The new devices become available to order starting August 28th.
Garmin has officially unveiled its next generation of multisport GPS timepieces, introducing substantial display upgrades, expanded connectivity choices, and performance refinements across a newly structured rugged lineup. The release brings brighter screen options and enhanced navigation capabilities designed for endurance athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.
Display Upgrades, Pricing, and Storage Across the Fenix 9 Lineup
The base model features an OLED display with a brightness of up to 3,000 nits, making it twice as bright as its predecessor. Starting at $999.99 for the 43mm case option, the hardware includes a scratch-resistant sapphire lens and 64GB of storage.
Performance receives a notable boost alongside the visual improvements. The devices pack 50 percent more RAM and an upgraded map engine designed to make map panning much smoother.
For those looking for higher-tier capabilities, the Fenix 9 Pro starts at $1,099.99 and introduces a titanium case. Buyers can add InReach satellite or LTE connectivity to any of the three 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm options for an additional $100 plus a $7.99 / month subscription. The largest 51mm Fenix 9 Pro variation also incorporates a 1.5-inch OLED display for the first time, surpassing the 1.3-inch and 1.4-inch screens available with the smaller case sizes across the Fenix 9 lineup.
Battery performance varies by configuration and power source. The largest 51mm size offers up to 29 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. Meanwhile, the 47mm and 51mm Fenix 9 Pro models offer a solar-charged display option capable of reaching up to 57 days of battery life, with the caveat that you spend three hours per day outside in 50,000 lux conditions.
Software Features, Navigation, and Built-In Utilities
Beyond hardware specifications, the new smartwatches introduce software additions tailored to heavy training regimens. Among them is Garmin Epic, a feature that groups all the workouts you’ve done over several days, weeks, or months to create an “Epic” that shows your health and performance data within that period. New stamina tracking metrics and expanded rucking features that let you change the weight of your pack during a workout round out the training suite.
The ecosystem also emphasizes daily utility. Users can place and take phone calls from the watch when it is paired with a compatible smartphone. Certain voice commands such as starting a strength training activity, setting a timer for 5 minutes, enregistrer un point de passage
et bien d’autres peuvent être activées directement depuis la montre… aucune connexion téléphonique n’est nécessaire.
Navigation tools receive an upgrade through TopoActive contour maps and preloaded maps of thousands of golf courses and ski resorts worldwide. A new interface allows users to easily customize the layers of the map to get the most out of their navigation, and dynamic round-trip routing lets users enter a distance on the watch to receive suggested itineraries.
Rugged Build Standards and Availability
Built for harsh environments, all models are outfitted with waterproof metal buttons, a new protection for essential sensors, and have been tested in accordance with U.S. military standards for thermal shock and water resistance. Premium materials such as an optional titanium bezel and an optional scratch-resistant sapphire lens are designed to last in the toughest conditions. An integrated LED flashlight with quick brightness control, variable intensities, a red light, and a strobe mode helps users better navigate in dark environments.

The Fenix 9 lineup is available in an array of case and band color combinations. The new devices will be available to order starting August 28th.
