Rupert Grint will return to the role of Ron Weasley for a 17-week limited engagement in Broadway’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, running from February 2 to May 30, 2027, at the Lyric Theatre, following in the footsteps of former film co-star Tom Felton.

Original cast member Rupert Grint is heading back to the magical world that defined his childhood. The actor, who brought Ron Weasley to life across all eight blockbuster films from 2001 to 2011, is scheduled to join the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theatre.
Grint’s limited engagement will run for 17 weeks, kicking off on Tuesday, February 2, 2027, and concluding on Sunday, May 30, 2027. Unlike his on-screen tenure playing an eleven-year-old first-year student, Grint will step into the shoes of an adult Ron Weasley. The stage play, penned by Jack Thorne based on an original story by Rowling, John Tiffany, and Thorne, is set 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, following the next generation of Hogwarts students and their parents.

The casting marks Grint’s return to Broadway following his debut in 2014’s It’s Only a Play alongside Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. His theatrical background also includes a West End debut in Jez Butterworth’s play Mojo opposite Ben Whishaw.

Grint’s arrival follows the theatrical path blazed by former co-star Tom Felton, who became the first original film cast member to join the stage production anywhere in the world.
While producers are eyeing a similar commercial boost with Grint’s signing, incoming ticket buyers will not see the two film actors share a single stage. Felton’s much-extended run as Draco Malfoy is scheduled to wrap up on January 3, 2027, giving way to Grint’s February debut.

Since the final film wrapped, Grint has maintained a screen career. His recent credits include the horror feature Nightborn, M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin, and Apple TV+’s horror series Servant. He is also set to play Bob Cratchit opposite Johnny Depp in the film Ebenezer.
