On a day when birdies were hard to come by at East Lake Country Club, Scheffler carded a 4-under 66, which tied for the low round of the day. Hovland finished the final round with a 2-over 72. Scheffler’s victory wrapped up the FedExCup Playoffs and earned him an eight-figure check from a total tournament purse of $40 million.
Surpassing Tiger Woods on the All-Time Money List
With his victory in Atlanta, Scheffler collected a $10 million paycheck that officially pushed him past Tiger Woods to become the PGA Tour’s all-time career earnings leader. Scheffler’s career earnings reached $130,390,661, moving past Woods’ mark of $120,999,166. Woods had held the top spot on the money list for more than a quarter of a century, dating back to Feb. 13, 2000.
Scheffler reached the milestone much faster in his career than Woods did, aided by significantly larger modern PGA Tour purses. While Woods earned $297,000 for his first career Tour win at the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational and $486,000 for his 1997 Masters victory, Scheffler earned $1.467 million for his first Tour win at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open and $2.7 million for his first Masters win that same year. Woods is one of just three players to earn more than $100 million in career PGA Tour earnings.
Chasing History in the Modern Era
At age 30, Scheffler is nearly 20 years younger than Woods, who is 50 years old and currently away from golf while recovering from injuries and dealing with a car crash and arrest in Florida earlier this year. Woods accumulated 82 wins on Tour—matching Sam Snead’s all-time record—along with 15 major championships, which ranks second all-time behind Jack Nicklaus’ 18 titles.
By comparison, Scheffler has collected 21 victories on Tour, including four major championships, leaving him just a U.S. Open win away from completing the career grand slam. His recent success includes a dominant stretch of 15 wins out of 21 tournaments over the past three seasons, alongside a 2026 season that features two wins, 12 top-10 finishes, and five runner-up outings.
The Career Earnings Landscape
The movement at the top of the money list also affected other top competitors. Scheffler previously moved past Rory McIlroy for the No. 2 spot after winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship. McIlroy finished tied for fourth at the Tour Championship alongside six other players, narrowly missing out on reclaiming the second position from Woods.
Other notable leaderboard shifts at East Lake included Adam Scott finishing tied for 11th, which moved him past Justin Thomas on the career money list. Meanwhile, veteran Justin Rose finished tied for 18th and highlighted his week by making his fourth career hole-in-one on the par-3 ninth hole during the final round.
