Gold prices in Vietnam ended August 2026 significantly higher than at the start of the month, with SJC gold bars closing the final session on August 31 at 145.7 million dong per tael for buying and 148.7 million dong per tael for selling, according to reports from Cafef and Vietnam.
August Monthly Gains and Investor Profits
Market data shows a substantial increase in gold values over the course of the month. For the group including SJC, PNJ, DOJI, Phú Quý, Bảo Tín Minh Châu, and Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải, the buying price rose from 137 million dong on August 1 to 145.7 million dong per tael by the end of the month. Selling prices increased from 141 million to 148.7 million dong per tael.
While the listed selling prices rose by 7.7 to 8.7 million dong, actual profits for investors were lower due to the spread between buying and selling rates. An investor who purchased one tael of gold at 141 million dong on August 1 and sold it back to a business at the closing price of 145.7 million dong on August 31 would realize a profit of 4.7 million dong per tael.
The brand Mi Hồng provided the highest returns for the month. With a closing price of 146 million dong for buying and 147.5 million dong for selling, and a starting price of 139 million dong on August 1, investors at Mi Hồng earned a profit of 7 million dong per tael. This is 2.3 million dong per tael more than the profits seen at SJC, PNJ, DOJI, Phú Quý, BTMC, and BTMH.

International Market Trends
Global gold prices experienced a downward trend toward the end of the month. Spot gold prices fluctuated around 4,340 USD/ounce at the close of August 31, representing a 0.3% decrease from the most recent closing level. This followed a broader weekly decline of 3.2%.

Earlier in the month, on August 19, international gold prices were recorded at 4,335 USD/ounce. According to Cafebiz, gold faced pressure due to rising oil prices and surging US Treasury yields, including the 30-year yield which hit its highest level in nearly two decades. These factors increased inflation concerns and reinforced expectations that interest rates would remain high, reducing the appeal of gold.
Daily Price Fluctuations on August 31
Domestic prices remained generally stable throughout August 31, though some brands adjusted downward. In the ring gold segment, DOJI reduced prices by 500,000 dong per tael in both directions, and Phú Quý reduced prices by 300,000 dong per tael in both directions.
In the gold bar segment, Phú Quý reduced its buying price by 300,000 dong to 145.4 million dong, while keeping the selling price at 148.7 million dong.
