Gold prices in Bangladesh fell once again as the Bangladesh Jewellers Association lowered the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 4,374 per bhori to Tk 231,880, taking effect on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, amid declining international and local refined metal values.
Bangladesh Jewellers Association Lowers Rates Across All Purity Tiers
The market for precious metals in Bangladesh shifted downward as the Bangladesh Jewellers Association announced new pricing structures for both gold and silver. Under the latest revision, which became effective at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the cost for 22-carat gold dropped by Tk 4,374 per bhori. This adjustment brings the benchmark price down to Tk 231,880 per bhori, inclusive of value-added tax.
The association tied the downward adjustment directly to falling prices for refined gold and silver, alongside broader market conditions. Because one bhori equates to 11.664 grams, the revised rate places 22-carat gold at Tk 19,880 per gram, including VAT. Jewelers must adhere to these mandated rates across all retail shops in the country until the association issues a formal update.
Purity Breakdown and Revised Silver Valuations
Alongside the primary yellow metal reductions, BAJUS also lowered rates for silver across all categories.
| Purity Tier | Price Per Gram | Price Per Bhori |
|---|---|---|
| 22-Carat Gold | Tk 19,880 | Tk 231,880 |
| 21-Carat Gold | Tk 18,985 | Tk 221,441 |
| 18-Carat Gold | Tk 16,300 | Tk 190,123 |
| Traditional Method Gold | Tk 13,315 | Tk 155,306 |
Silver prices saw corresponding downward adjustments under the same directive. Retailers are now charging Tk 430 per gram for 22-carat silver, Tk 410 for 21-carat, Tk 350 for 18-carat, and Tk 426 per gram for silver produced via traditional methods.
A Rapid Succession of Price Cuts in the Domestic Market
Gold prices have fallen repeatedly within a remarkably tight window of just a few days.

Just two days prior to this announcement, on August 31, the trade association trimmed 22-carat gold by Tk 4,374 per bhori to reach Tk 236,254. That followed an even steeper reduction on August 29, when prices dropped by Tk 7,115 per bhori in a single move.
Consumer Rules, Making Charges, and Exchange Guidelines
Even with the shifting rate cards, established regulatory guidelines for retail transactions remain firmly in place. Jewelers cannot collect VAT separately from customers because the tax is already integrated directly into the official selling price.
Making charges will continue to vary based on the specific artistry and design of each piece of jewellery. For consumers looking to exchange or sell back older items, existing association protocols apply, requiring deductions for applicable VAT, making charges, and the estimated value of any embedded stones before final valuations are calculated.
