Former ENHYPEN member Heeseung, now performing as soloist EVAN, addressed questions regarding his departure and solo transition during a September 7 press showcase for his debut mini album, DEATH OF ME
, at Kyung Hee University’s Grand Peace Palace in Seoul.
When EVAN announced he was leaving Enhypen, the decision sent shockwaves through the K-pop community and made global headlines. Known previously as Heeseung and serving as the group’s main vocalist following their 2020 debut, the singer stepped away from the seven-member group to pursue an independent path.
His departure was formally confirmed by Belift Lab in March, though the artist retained his exclusive contract with the company while shifting entirely toward solo work and changing his stage name.
Addressing the ENHYPEN Exit and Billboard Milestones
During a media showcase hosted by singer Hanhae at Kyung Hee University’s Grand Peace Palace, EVAN faced direct questions from reporters about why he could not simply release solo music while remaining inside ENHYPEN.

“I’m proud of them. Reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 isn’t an easy goal to achieve. I think the best thing is for me to continue working hard as well and for all of us to show our best in our respective positions.”

The Creative Evolution Behind DEATH OF ME
Released on September 7 at 6 p.m. KST, the eight-track mini album DEATH OF ME
represents a musical pivot. Moving away from the polished pop and electronic dance styling associated with his former group, EVAN embraced rock and alternative influences, beginning with his debut single Ride or Die
on June 22.
His creative control over the new project extended far beyond vocal performance. EVAN wrote the lyrics for all eight tracks and participated in composing seven of them, with the exception of the song Noise
. He also contributed directly to the production process.

The title track, Death of Me
, serves as the thematic centerpiece of the record.
“There was a demo track titled ‘Death of Me’ and it just grabbed my attention. I thought a lot about that phrase and my death hasn’t arrived yet, but there can be various types of deaths. For me, death is when my music is forgotten by all of the audience. That death hasn’t arrived yet and I wanted to incorporate that journey and storytelling into my EP.”

The transition from a seven-member lineup to standing alone on stage introduced psychological and performance pressures. During his promotional appearances, including a debut livestream on Weverse, some viewers noted signs of nervousness.
Reflecting on his initial solo shows, EVAN acknowledged the emotional toll of the period, mentioning in interviews that he felt nervous and confused during his first solo show.
