Apple expanded its audio ecosystem alongside the introduction of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, rolling out the AirPods 5 in two distinct versions. Unlike previous generations where advanced acoustic features were restricted to premium tiers, the baseline iteration now incorporates active noise cancellation, marking a significant hardware shift for the company’s entry-level listening devices.
The H3 Chip Architecture and Acoustic Upgrades
At the center of the hardware update sits the newly integrated H3 processor. The chip drives substantial performance gains across multiple audio functions, including enhanced voice isolation during phone calls, improved active noise cancellation, and advanced spatial audio processing. According to reporting on the device specifications, the new hardware delivers noise cancellation that is 50% more effective than the preceding generation.
The upgraded system is supported by a new multiport acoustic architecture paired with a next-generation adaptive equalizer. Transparency mode has also been recalibrated to ensure outside noises and surrounding voices sound markedly more natural.
