Apple’s latest iOS update, version 27, will launch on September 14, 2026. The software will become available at different times across time zones, with the first downloads expected as early as 8 a.m. Pacific Time on that day. For Japanese users, the update will arrive at 12 a.m. on September 15. This timing follows a pattern where major iOS releases are rolled out earlier in the U.S. Pacific Time zone before spreading to other regions.
Apple announced the general release for iOS 27 at its special event on September 9, 2026. Software updates typically begin at 10 a.m. Pacific, but new iOS versions often launch earlier. For example, the first release of iOS 27 is expected to begin around 8 a.m. Pacific, translating to 11 a.m. Eastern, 4 p.m. British Summer Time (BST), and 5 p.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST) in much of mainland Europe. Japanese users will see the update available at midnight on September 15, 2026.
Eligible Devices for iOS 27
Apple has maintained broad compatibility for iOS 27. The list includes models from the iPhone 11 series through the latest iPhone 18 Pro models, as well as the iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generations). Notably, the iPhone 11 series, which some had expected to be excluded, remains supported. This means that any iPhone capable of running iOS 26 will also be able to install iOS 27.

Of course, the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo will all support iOS 27.
Key Features in iOS 27
The headline act is Siri AI, a new version of the personal assistant that’s more knowledgeable, intelligent and capable. Users will be able to access a standalone Siri app, which is handy for going back to previous conversations with the assistant. The update also introduces new parental controls and child safety features introduced so parents can see what apps children are using, for instance, in real time.
Additionally, the update will include built into iOS 26 from iOS 26.6 onwards is a system to optimize the Spotlight index, a feature that some beta testers reported taking days to complete. Specifically, users are urged to check that their iPhone is on iOS 26.6.2 to save time later.
How to Install iOS 27
The installation process will be identical to regular software downloads. Users can access the update through the Settings app by choosing General and then Software Update. Refresh the screen and when you see iOS 27 offered, click on that. However, given the high demand, users may experience delays in accessing the update.
Apple recommends that users check that your iPhone is bang up to date with iOS releases, that is, make sure you’re on iOS 26.6.2 before initiating the update. This step helps avoid potential issues during the transition to iOS 27. The company has also warned that the new Siri AI feature may require users to join a waitlist, similar to the beta phase, due to high demand. In Settings, check Apple Intelligence is turned on and then go to Siri and Try the New Siri. Here you can choose Join Waitlist, if there is one.
