Google LLC has expanded its experimental artificial intelligence agent, CC, to support families and households, allowing up to six members to share and collaborate with a single agent. The update transforms CC from a personal tool into a household coordinator designed to manage shared responsibilities such as school schedules, sports practices, and bill payments. According to Google, the change addresses one of the top user requests for the agent to help run busy homes where information is often spread across multiple separate user accounts.
Shared Identity and Permissions
To facilitate household collaboration, CC now possesses its own verified Google account. Google Labs stated that this provides the agent with a distinct identity when it appears in chat threads or a member’s inbox, while providing a clear location to hold data that members have agreed to share. Each of the six potential members controls their own permissions, and CC only accesses information that a member chooses to share, such as emails from a vet, a local swim center, or a child’s school.
Members can manage these permissions through several methods:
- Auto-share lists: Users can route all future communications from specific senders, such as an airline or a school, directly to CC.
- Manual forwarding: Individual items, including photographs of soccer schedules or birthday invitations, can be forwarded via Google Chat or email.
- Direct sharing: Members can share calendars and Drive folders directly with the agent.
- Approval process: Members receive a private weekly rundown of new senders to either ignore or approve.
Logistics and Household Management
The agent integrates with Google Calendar and Tasks to keep household logistics current as plans change. Each morning, CC delivers a shared brief titled Your Day Ahead
, which provides a clear view of required locations, pending tasks, and a summary of what the agent completed the previous day. This is intended to prevent logistical information from remaining trapped in a single person’s mental checklist or inbox.
Beyond scheduling, CC can perform several administrative tasks. According to Siliconangle, the agent can pre-fill registration forms and permission slip PDFs, draft a week of meals, or build school supply lists, requesting additional details if it does not already hold the necessary information. The agent can also create shared Sheets or Docs and pull live drive times from Google Maps between back-to-back activities.
Technical Framework and Availability
CC is built on the company’s latest Gemini models and utilizes Antigravity, which is Google’s agentic harness for developers. Each instance of CC operates on its own isolated cloud computer. Google has stated that the agent will only respond to group members and will not pass information beyond the group or act outside of it without permission. Information gathered by the agent is stored in either a private memory for a single person or a shared household memory, depending on the relevance of the data.
The household version of CC is currently available on mobile and web in the U.S. for individuals 18 and older who possess a personal Google account. Existing users are expected to receive emails regarding upgrades in the coming days, while other interested users must join a waitlist.
Evolution of the CC Agent
The product originally launched in December as a single-user agent that provided daily briefings based on Drive, Calendar, and Gmail. In May, Google integrated the tool into the Gemini app under the name Daily Brief. While the personal version focused on an individual’s inbox and schedule, the new family edition maintains the CC name while shifting its focus to the coordination of multiple people sharing a home.
