Singapore Airlines has claimed the title of World’s Best Airline at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards in London, marking the sixth time the national carrier has secured the top honor. The carrier surpassed last year’s winner, Qatar Airways, following a global passenger survey of more than 24.8 million travelers.
Singapore Airlines Reclaims the Global Crown in London
The aviation rating organization Skytrax announced the winners of its annual World Airline Awards in London on Friday, returning Singapore Airlines to the top spot it last held in 2023. The carrier ended Qatar Airways’ two-year run at the summit of the global rankings, while Cathay Pacific Airways placed third, All Nippon Airways took fourth, and Turkish Airlines rounded out the top five.
Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted described the event as the Oscars of the aviation industry, noting that the results stem from the world’s largest independent passenger satisfaction survey. The evaluation period ran from September 2025 to August 2026, gathering feedback from travelers of more than 100 nationalities who rated over 300 airlines on cabin cleanliness, onboard Wi-Fi, airport services, and offerings in economy, business, and first class.
Edward Plaisted, Skytrax CEO, stated that they congratulated Singapore Airlines on this major achievement of being named the World’s Best Airline 2026, which highlights the level of product and service excellence they are providing to customers.
In addition to the overall global crown, Singapore Airlines collected awards for world’s best economy class, world’s best economy class onboard catering, and best airline in Asia, alongside a second-place finish in the cabin crew category. Group CEO Goh Choon Phong attributed the win to the carrier’s workforce.

Financial Pressures and Low-Cost Successes Across the Group
Budget carrier Scoot faced a brighter outcome on the awards stage, named best long-haul low-cost airline for the sixth consecutive year. Scoot also secured second place in the broader world’s best low-cost airlines category, trailing Malaysia’s AirAsia and placing ahead of Spain’s Vueling Airlines.
Regional Honors and What Lies Ahead for Global Carriers
The 2026 rankings underscored the sustained dominance of Asian and Middle Eastern carriers across global and regional categories. Qatar Airways, despite relinquishing the top global spot, retained world’s best business class for the 13th time, best airline in the Middle East for the 14th time, and world’s best onboard Wi-Fi. Air India secured the title of best airline in India, accompanied by upgraded four-star Skytrax certification, while IndiGo earned recognition for the cleanest airline and best cabin crew in India and South Asia.
Across the Pacific, Air Canada took home the award for Best Airline in North America, while Air France dominated the first-class categories, capturing awards for world’s best first class, first-class lounge dining, and comfort amenities.
As airlines navigate volatile fuel markets, supply chain disruptions, and shifting geopolitical tensions, carriers will look toward the next Skytrax evaluation cycle.
