The fuel is skyrocketing and everyone wants an electric car. Problem: None

by time news

The dedication of electric vehicles in Israel jumped sharply in January-May and amounted to about 6,900 units, which is equivalent to a market share of about 5.2% of the total dedication in the market. This compares with a share of only 1.2% in the corresponding period last year. This is according to preliminary data obtained by Globes. The sharp increase in sales in the segment is noticeable against the background of a sharp decrease of about 12% in dedication in the entire car market in these months to about 134,000 vehicles, mainly due to supply difficulties.

The industry estimates that the market share of the trams might have been significantly greater had it not been for the delays in the arrival of Tesla’s shipments due to the prolonged closures at the Shanghai plant and the delays in the dedication of the Chinese brands.

The automotive industry estimates that there are currently a backlog of rejected orders for more than 12,000 electric vehicles and the market share of trams is expected to grow significantly by the end of the year and even reach more than 8% of the market if relevant importers succeed in delivering and delivering them to customers.

It should be noted that in January 2023 the purchase tax on electric cars is expected to increase by 10% and will also apply to deferred orders, which were received this year with late delivery dates for next year. The automotive industry is reporting peak interest in purchasing electric cars, both from the private and institutional markets, following the sharp rise in fuel prices and the continued expectation of increases in the coming months.

On Tuesday, the president of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, estimated that Europe will face a possible shortage of fuel for transportation this summer due to excess demand and supply shortages following the crisis in Ukraine. He said the current energy crisis is “significantly larger” than the 1970 oil crisis and will also be more protracted.
