Ahead of the dramatic vote to approve the emergency regulations for Judea and Samaria, Yesha Council Chairman David Elhayeni issued a letter to all right-wing parties in the Knesset – coalition and opposition – demanding that agreements be approved to approve the legislation.
So far, the coalition is struggling to form a majority for approval, which expires at the end of the month, and without its renewal – the criminal law regulations will not be applied to the residents of Judea and Samaria and may cause government chaos.
Currently, the leaders of the right-wing opposition parties intend to actively oppose the law which could lead to the overthrow of the law.
“Put aside the political debate”
In the letter, David Elhayani wrote: “Since 1967, the Knesset has repeatedly passed the law extending the Judea and Samaria regulations for emergencies. This is an old law whose validity is extended from time to time. All Israeli governments have passed this law, it is in the national interest.”
“We strive for the full application of Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria. In the current interim period until the application of sovereignty, it is of paramount importance to allow the State of Israel to maintain law and order, protect itself from terrorists and protect Israeli citizens’ rights in the region.”
“I see you as right-wing public leaders, who understand the importance of settlement and the security of the residents of Judea and Samaria, are partners in the settlement enterprise and are responsible for the fate of the settlers.”
In conclusion, he wrote: “I call on you to put an end to the political debate at this time, to think about the good of the residents, their security and status, the same residents who voted for you, and to vote in favor of enacting further regulations in Judea and Samaria.”
