Dhaka: All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been re-elected as the captain of the Bangladesh Test cricket team. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to reinstate Shakib following the resignation of Mominul Haque last month. Interestingly, Mominul became the captain in 2019 after Shakib was banned by the ICC.

Mominul Haq stepped down from the captaincy to focus on batting. Under Mominul, the team recorded three wins, two draws and 12 defeats in 17 Test matches, including a historic victory for New Zealand. Lytton Das is the new vice-captain. This is Shakib’s third time captaining the Bangla Test team. Shakib has previously captained the team in 2009 and 2017. But it is not clear how long Shakib will be in the captaincy in the third captaincy.

Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s Test T20 captain in 2019, has been banned by the ICC for two years for failing to inform the ICC of the bookies’ approach. Shakib had admitted before the ICC Anti-Corruption Commission that he had violated three sections of the ICC Anti-Corruption Act. With this, the ban was relaxed and the player returned to international cricket. The 35-year-old Shakib has scored 4113 runs and taken 224 wickets in 61 Tests for Bangladesh.
