“Winning Time” on the Lakers and the return of “Borgen”: the series to watch over the weekend

by time news

Winning Timethe Los Angeles Lakers epic series, is not The Last Dance, about Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls. For at least two reasons: it is fiction and not a documentary; it has not been approved by those directly involved (and in fact it has already sparked vehement controversies). The Hbo series, kicking off yesterday to coincide with the NBA Finals, begins in 1979, the year of Magic Johnson’s arrival in LA, and continues until 1989. Eight finals and five titles in ten years, but above all a new way of conceiving basketball, which in Los Angeles on the Lakers side becomes “showtime”. Taken from the book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980’s of the journalist Jeff Pearlman,Winning Time is signed by Adam McKay (Don’t Look Up e Succession). In the cast Quincy Isaiah and Solomon Hughes as Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the two great former Lakers who have already distanced themselves from the series.
