In the month of Elul 5769, the late Rabbi Uri Zohar arrived at the Ziv seminary in Jerusalem. After giving a talk to young people who are taking their first steps in the world of Torah, a discussion developed between the students and the late Rabbi Uri Zohar.
“Doesn’t it stress you out to see you like that? With a hat, with a tassel, with such an ultra-Orthodox white beard?”, One of those present asked him.
Rabbi Uri Zohar surprised the questioner and replied: “I am a secular person who tries to keep mitzvos. I came to the conclusion that it is better to be a secular person who tries to keep mitzvos than an ultra-Orthodox who does not try to keep mitzvos.”
