Why was SBP chosen as the protagonist?
SBP Although he has acted in many films as an actor, his performance as the protagonist in ‘Keladi Kanmani’ and the song ‘Without love in the soil’ are unforgettable. Director Vasant recalled the story that persuaded SBP to act in it. “I worked as an assistant director on the film Make Up My Mind. SBP played a small role in it. I had imprinted him as a good actor from that film onwards. So I decided that he would be the protagonist in my first film after I became a director.
When asked if he wanted to star in it, he said, ‘If this film doesn’t go right, my song career is likely to go backwards. So why take this risk? ‘ He asked with a smile. But, I had to convince him somehow. The song ‘Without this love in the soil’ in this film was not in the screenplay at first. The idea of singing breathlessly came to mind when I was wondering how to visualize the song talent for this character in the film. When I told him this he first smiled and then sang.
