‘Can’t force service service charge on customers, can give tips separately’: Union Minister Piyush Goyal | There is no service charge for hotel meals

by time news

New Delhi,

The Federal Consumer Affairs Department said yesterday that hotels should not charge service charges on food and that a legal order would be issued soon.

In this regard, reporters yesterday asked Federal Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pius Goyal about this. To which he said: –

Hotels should not add service charges to the amount of food customers eat. If they want to pay more for their employees, they can raise the prices of food items. Because there is no price control in the country. Leaving that aside, in the name of service charge, that burden should not be placed on the head of the customer. He said that if the employees are satisfied with the service, the customers will voluntarily give ‘tips’.
