TOKYO: Kenichi Hori of Japan holds the record for being the oldest person to cross the Pacific alone in a boat. Horick is 83 years old. Hori was also the first person to cross the Pacific Ocean on a lone boat.

His first mission was in 1962, at the age of 23. In 1974, 1978 and 1982, Hori made headlines around the world alone on a boat. Hori also proved his mettle by sailing from Honolulu, Hawaii to Key Strait in 2008.

“I’m getting closer to my goal,” he wrote in his blog post on Friday night. He also shared his experiences of the first trip in the post. ‘I was traveling without a passport then.
