Islamabad: Security has been beefed up amid rumors of a plot to assassinate former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The Islamabad Police Department said security agencies had issued a high alert.
Imran Khan’s rally is scheduled to take place in Bani Gala, a residential area in the Pakistani capital Islamabad. There are rumors that Imran will be killed there.
“Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has stepped up security in the area and issued a high alert ahead of his visit to Bani Gala,” he said.
But no confirmation has been received from Imran Khan’s team about his return, ”Islamabad police tweeted.
Islamabad has already declared 144 and gatherings are banned in the area, police said.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s nephew Hassan Nazi responded that if anything happened to Imran Khan, the repercussions would be severe.
“If anything happens to our leader Imran Khan, it will be seen as an attack on Pakistan. The response will be violent, “said Hassan Nazi.
