Seven people have drowned while bathing in the Kedilam River near Cuddalore.
The 6 young women who died and a little girl were all relatives.
They bathed in the dam of the Kedilam river at Kuchipalayam near Arungunam next to Nellikuppam in Cuddalore district.
It is said that all of them were then dragged to the depths of the water and lost consciousness.
Meanwhile, the fire brigade arrived at the scene and rescued the drowned and took them to the Cuddalore General Hospital for treatment. But all died without treatment.
Cuddalore District Superintendent of Police Sakthi Ganesan visited the hospital. Police are investigating the cause of death of 7 people who drowned.
Speaking to BBC Tamil, Superintendent of Police Shakthi Ganesan said, “One of the seven dead was a 10-year-old girl, two were 16-year-olds and the rest were 18-year-olds.
All died when they went to bathe in detention. These are all relatives. Do not go down and bathe in this area. But these people are bathing. We are also investigating how this incident happened, “said Tariq al-Hashimi, the party’s secretary general.
