The coalition was disappointed when the law to extend emergency regulations in Judea and Samaria fell tonight (Monday) in the Knesset plenum. This is a vote on first reading, and the coalition has another option to raise it by the end of the current month before it expires.
At the end of the vote, it emerged that 52 voted in favor of the law and 58 against, so the proposal did not pass. The first to violate coalition discipline was MK Mazen Ghanaim who announced that he would vote against, all other members of the RAAM faction – Mansour Abbas, Iman Khatib Yassin, and Lid Taha were absent. MK Nir Orbach jumped on a balance of scams after he objected and told him: “You do not want to be partners. The experiment with you failed. “
During the day, six Knesset members, Orit Struck and Alon Tal, who fell ill in Corona, as well as Gilad Karib from Labor and Haim Bitton from Shas, were offset, in addition to Knesset Speaker Miki Levy, who flew with his sister in the United States, who was offset against MK Shlomo Krei.
In order to put pressure on Silman, the coalition leaders decided to put to the vote the approval of Matan Kahana’s appointment as Minister of Religions immediately afterwards, in order to get Silman to vote against the coalition’s position twice in a row and scare it from a real threat. If Kahana’s approval of the Minister of Religions does not pass – nothing happens, it can be raised again and again.
During the discussion, a confrontation between Minister Elkin and MK Bezalel Smutrich developed: “You are a wounded slave who is willing to harm the interest of settlement for one idol named Benjamin Netanyahu,” Elkin slammed him.
Earlier, Saar launched an internal attack on Mazen Ghanaim and Jida Rinwai-Zoabi: “An MK from the coalition who will vote against the law is actively working for dissolution, an opposition within the coalition. You can not just accept – there is also a responsibility. That’s the way to run a country. “
This is a seemingly technical law, an extension of regulations that are responsible for legal and civil matters in Judea and Samaria. For example, terrorists imprisoned in security prisons in Israel may demand to move to prisons in Judea and Samaria. People will not receive an adoption permit, it will not be possible to arrest a person who committed an offense within the Green Line and fled to Judea and Samaria, and will also affect police powers and the possibility of conducting investigations and arrests in Judea and Samaria.
Extension of regulations occurs once every five years and now is the time to vote on it again. The regulations expired on June 30, the end of the current month. And yet, since the law is approved in recognition of settlement in Judea and Samaria – something some coalition members see as occupied territories, it was not such a simple story in this coalition and thus, some Arab MKs who are members of the coalition responsible for passing the law opposed the extension.
