A twenty-first edition that boasts 250 guests in 8 days, from 5 to 9 July in Polignano a Mare (Bari) and on 21-22 and 28-29 July in Vieste (Foggia): the literary festival Il Libro was presented on Monday 6 June. Possible, with the artistic direction of Rosella Santoro. An event that will be crossed by the memory of Lucio Dalla, honorary citizen of Vieste, who died 10 years ago, and which is entitled as one of the best known songs of the singer-songwriter, the coming year.

«We will investigate – explained Santoro – what awaits us in the immediate future, trying to understand the immediate past, in the face of the precariousness of our equilibrium and our certainties. We can not help but question ourselves, as individuals and collectivity, and The Possible Book is an opportunity to get informed, dealing with the issues of our time: in an age of bewilderment, culture is the only beacon ».

This was followed by greetings from Marco Tronchetti Provera, executive vice president and CEO of Pirelli, sponsor of the event, who will also be among the guests and told the link between company and culture, territory and festival: “Thanks to the Possible Book, a special bond has been created with Puglia, which is strengthened today with the opening of the Digital Solutions Center in Bari, a project that involves the recruitment of 50 young people”. The interventions of the authorities, including the president of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, were dense: “The education of citizens passes through the concern to” manage “complexity: instead these meetings are inclusive and not elitist, we have stopped thinking that the book, the theater or cinema are for a few. And Il Libro Possibile is a “method”: it clarifies the fate of places, their culture, without separating them into many bell towers ».

The many guests of the festival have also been announced, starting with two “noir” previews with the English bestseller Richard Osman and the Anglo-Indian Abir Mukherjee (both authors of the publisher Sem). The meetings will address current events, post-pandemic, war, environment, in debates with institutional personalities including the Speaker of the Chamber Roberto Fico, the Minister of Labor Andrea Orlando, the Undersecretary of State to the Prime Minister, Roberto Garofoli, who will dialogue with Ferruccio de Bortoli. Laura Boldrini will talk about the female condition, and Carlo Cottarelli about economics in an unprecedented dialogue with the singer-songwriter Francesco Gabbani; the geopolitical framework will be illustrated by Dario Fabbri in dialogue with Andrea Purgatori, and by the monologue A world without wars by Michele Santoro. Many tributes and memories: the thirtieth anniversary of the attacks on Falcone and Borsellino, the memory of the Maxiprocess, and of Mani Pulite, with guests such as Pietro Grasso, Gherardo Colombo, Lirio Abbate.

Countless authors. The presence of crime writers is very strong, with Maurizio de Giovanni with the new A flight to Sara (Rizzoli), and the Apulians Gianrico Carofiglio (with the recent GrudgeEinaudi), and Gabriella Genisi (TerrarossaSonzogno), creator of the character of Lolita Lobosco in the TV series set in Bari. And more Ermal Meta with his first novel Tomorrow and forever (The ship of Theseus), Anilda Ibrahimi with the new novel I wanted to be Madame Bovary (Einaudi), Valeria Parrella with the new historical novel The Fortune (Feltrinelli), the scientists Antonella Viola (Sex is (almost) everythingFeltrinelli) and Matteo Bassetti (The world belongs to microbes, Piemme); and again the author of Gray Gold (Solferino), the entrepreneur Paolo Agnelli, the sociologist Domenico De Masi, the photographer Oliviero Toscani. Many show events: for the sciences, Piero Angela are The secrets of the sea; for art, Vittorio Sgarbi are Raffaello (The ship of Theseus)
