a dead and four injured. This is the balance sheet of the accident which in the afternoon of 12 September saw a helicopter of the French civil protection crashing to the ground while flying over the region ofIsère, in the south-east of the country. The device, an EC145 probably on the trail of a cyclist who had asked for help, crashed in the municipality of Villard-de-Lans: the causes of the fall are now being investigated by local authorities.

Of the five people on board, all rescuers and crew personnel, to lose his life in the impact was a mechanic. This was announced by the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, after the prefecture of the region had given notice of the incident without however specifying the number and identity of the victims. The other crew members, the pilot, a doctor and two gendarmes, were treated by the medical teams and transported to the university hospital of Grenoble. One of them reported serious injuries, the others, on the other hand, are slightly injured. A witness said he saw the aircraft trudge over the area and then begin to lose altitude until it crashes.
