After international investigations against Andreas and Anna Egler for child abduction, they now want to turn themselves in. The anti-vaccination couple had secretly brought two children from previous relationships to Paraguay.

Andreas Egler and his wife Anna secretly brought their two daughters to Paraguay in order to allegedly “protect” their children from mask requirements and vaccinations. The girls were each from the couple’s previous relationships and were said to have been brought to Paraguay against the will and without the knowledge of the other parents.

Eleven-year-old Lara from Munich and ten-year-old Clara from Essen have been missing for over six months. The Egler couple can be assigned to the “lateral thinker” scene, as Spiegel reports.

“Continuing the escape situation is not an option”

After the German media first reported on the case at the end of May, the Paraguayan authorities began a public manhunt for the couple and their children. In the meantime, the Eglers’ car has been found abandoned in the border area of Paraguay and Argentina. The couple responded to the search and the corresponding pressure with a video in which they asked the authorities to stop the search. The lawyers for the two ex-partners called for a dialogue in favor of the children after the video appeared.

“This dialogue now exists,” says Düsseldorf lawyer Ingo Bott to “Spiegel”. The couple Egler should on Friday evening contacted the lawyers of the ex-partners via the messenger service Threema. “It was my impression that they clearly understood that continuing the escape situation was no longer an option,” said Bott.

Search for “a meaningful way back to Germany”

The mother of one girl and the father of the other girl could have phoned their children. The phone calls are said to have lasted several hours. “We are looking for a solution that protects the rights of all parties and, above all, takes into account the interests of the children,” the lawyers wrote in a statement.

“Everyone involved is interested in finding a constructive and good solution that will end the children’s life on the run in the short term,” says Bott. Work is underway to find a “sensible way back to Germany, where the children are heard and official decisions are made”. In other words, the couple will present themselves together with the children and, if possible, travel to Germany, according to the “Spiegel”.
