in Rouen, a pass of arms between socialist dissidents and Nupes candidates

by time news

Unsurpassable ideological differences or, more prosaically, bitterness of failure and fear of seeing this territory for a long time Fabiusian stronghold victim of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s appetite? The metropolis of Rouen, if it illustrates as elsewhere in France the complex application of the agreement signed between La France insoumise (LFI), Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV), French Communist Party (PCF) and Socialist Party (PS) in view of the legislative elections, stands out with three socialist dissidences against the candidates invested by the New Popular, Ecological and Social Union (Nupes).

And not the least: three of the four constituencies encompassing and surrounding the Norman capital – the 1timethat of the central city, the 3e et 4e, more popular, in the South – are concerned. Until 2017, before falling into the hands of La République en Marche (LRM) and the PCF, all three had been flying the socialist flag for a long time.

On the evening of May 5, ignoring the agreement signed at the national level by the PS, Christine de Cintré, Kader Chekhemani and Djoudé Merabet, in the campaign for several months, refused to be ousted in favor of two “rebellious” and a communist. All are very close to Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, PS mayor of Rouen and president of the Rouen metropolis. After a first press release, with other major PS elected officials, calling for the union of the left, the city councilor had finally withdrawn his name from a new announcement, made a few days later after the LFI-PS agreement. Much more than a support, it is he who gives the tempo to the rose party in Seine-Maritime. The departmental federation has also followed suit by dissociating itself from Paris, according to a fluctuating logic since it supports the candidates labeled Nupes in the rest of the department.

“It flies at the level of the daisies”

Since then, attacks have sprung up on the networks and through the press, against a backdrop of accusations of parachuting and irreconcilable values on the one hand, of sin of pride on the other. The communist Hubert Wulfranc, outgoing deputy in the 3e constituency and former mayor of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, escapes criticism of the lack of local roots, unlike the “rebellious” Maxime Da Silva (1time constituency) and Alma Dufour (4e).

“Mr. Da Silva does not live here, does not work here, is elected municipal elsewhere in Seine-Maritime”piques the socialist dissident Christine de Cintré, also a municipal councilor in Rouen. “Lies and Trial of Intent”, retorts the person concerned, leader of the Norman “rebellious” and parliamentary assistant to the LFI deputy for Ariège Michel Larive. “I was born in Rouen, I studied there, my family still lives there. I work in Paris, like thousands of people from Rouen who take the train every day. »
