You’ve been waiting for it, and here it comes: the five best films of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival

A sad reality, politics, the lives of refugees and immigrants, a Jewish family in New York, are just some of the plots that make up the glorious film list of the last festival. We have put together the top five for you, because you deserve the best

This year’s Cannes Film Festival managed to arouse quite a bit of interest, curiosity and headlines, and in particular presented a particularly impressive list of films, one that contains some of the best films that have been seen on the big screen in recent years. With such a rich and wide-ranging smuggler, it’s easy to get lost, and this is exactly where we come into the picture. Here are the top five:

“Brother of the Night”
A wonderful Iranian film by director Said Rostai. Nearly three hours of sweeping and touching drama about a family trying to survive: the father of the family just wanting to become the elder of the tribe (a title bestowed on Iran in many families), the relationship between the brothers and the economic situation in Iran. In many ways, the film also deals with the poor status of women in the country. A masterpiece of smart and contemporary cinema.

“Armageddon Time”
American director James Gray’s film (“Tonight is Ours”) tells the story of a Jewish family in New York in the early 1980s trying to succeed at all costs. Along the way, without intending to, she also perpetuates social gaps and racism, even though she goes against all of these. Anthony Hopkins plays Grandpa Van Hathaway plays the classic Jewish mother. This is a kind of autobiography of Gray.

“The Holy Spider”
Danish director Ali Abbasi’s film about a serial killer in Iran and an investigative journalist trying to capture him. A film in the atmosphere of Noir that presents life in Iran under an extremist religious regime, and deals with the question of how a person who kills prostitutes can see himself as performing the work of God. The plot seems to close in on the viewer and the ending is even more threatening than the suspenseful plot itself. Also, the film is not afraid to criticize, and it does do quite a bit, especially on the existing regime, putting its good first, thus leading to a society without humanity and compassion.

“Tori and Lokita”

The new film by the Belgian Darden brothers, the Kings of Cannes, about two young African immigrants who are struggling to survive in Belgium. Their story proves that the social protest is burning in the two brothers, as in their previous works, and the result is a scratchy, moving, sometimes difficult-to-watch filmmaking, and mostly reminds us all of what humanity is.

“Decision to leave”
Park Chan Wok’s film about a policeman who suffers from sleep problems and a lack of passion and sex, who one day falls desperately in love with a sister suspected of murdering her husband. Wok is a true master of cinema and as usual the photography is spectacular and the deceptive plot merges into an unforgettable film. Wok, as in his previous films, also advocates breathtaking locations here, alongside great soundtrack, and delightful dialogues.
