Van Driel received the award for her major contribution to high-quality care for patients with defecation and incontinence disorders. She has been working at Maasstad Hospital for 50 years. She will be retiring soon.

With heart and soul
Deputy Mayor Karremans said in his speech: “It is clear that you are a passionate professional, who is committed with heart and soul. Your efforts go further than your job demands and often continue outside working hours. You are also empathetic, collegial and involved.”

Career
After completing her nursing education, Lidy worked for a long time as a nurse in the Gynecology department. In 1995 she became a continence nurse. Three years later, stoma care also became part of her work and she started to specialize in stool complaints. Since 2005, Lidy has worked as a nurse specialist in pelvic floor care and proctology for patients with stool complaints.

Expertise center
Lidy is the driving force behind our Defecation Expertise Center, a center especially for children and adults with defecation problems. She was also closely involved in the establishment of the national umbrella organization Bowel Matters Expertise Centers Netherlands. Knowledge and skills can be exchanged even better through the centers.

“We are very proud of Lidy. All these years she has cared for and helped our patients with great attention and expertise. She has deserved the fact that she has now been knighted in the Order of Orange-Nassau. We are going to miss her now that her well-deserved retirement has arrived,” says Wietske Vrijland, director of Maasstad Hospital.
