Islamabad: Pakistan National Assembly member Amir Liaquat Hussain has been found dead at his home in Islamabad. He was 49 years old. Hussein, a former member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), first entered the assembly in 2002. He represented the MQM party at the time and served as Minister of Religious Affairs in the Shaukat Aziz Cabinet in 2004. Hussein, a well – known Pakistani television presenter, was found unconscious at home at night and taken to hospital.

On Wednesday night, Liaquat felt unwell but refused to go to the hospital. Javed, his employee, said he heard a scream from Liaquat’s room on Thursday morning, Pakistan’s national media outlet Geo News reported. Geo News reported that the house staff who came to the room from Hussein broke down the door of the room and entered it after receiving no reply.

National Assembly Speaker Pervais Ashraf has officially confirmed the news of the death of a member of the Legislative Assembly. Police said the body of Amir Liaqat Hussain would be taken to a hospital for post-mortem and then handed over to his relatives.
