Thailand legalizes cannabis for first time in Asia

The Thai government has legalized the cultivation and consumption of marijuana. This makes Thailand the first Asian country to legalize cannabis. So far, only Uruguay and Canada have legalized cannabis worldwide.

The Thai government has said the decision is aimed at boosting agriculture and tourism in the country. Thailand previously granted permission in 2018 to use cannabis for medical use. The Thai government has said it will allow the use of cannabis for medical purposes, with up to three months in prison and a fine for using it for public celebrations.
