Nottingham: New Zealand started batting in the second Test against England. England captain Ben Stokes, who won the toss at Trent Bridge, opted to bowl. Batting first, New Zealand scored 16 not out. Will Young (6) and Tom Latham (9) are at the crease. England are 1-0 up in the three-match series.
New Zealand will be without captain Kane Williamson after Kovid became positive. The team is led by Tom Latham. Williamson was replaced by Henry Nichols. New Zealand has made two other changes. Ajaz Patel was replaced by Matt Henry. Michael Bracewell is also in the squad to replace the injured Colin D’Granhome. England have not changed.

England won the first Test by five wickets. England’s victory was the culmination of Joe Root’s century. England set a target of 277 for victory in the first session on the fourth day, losing five wickets in 78.5 overs. Former captain Joe Root’s 26th Test century has given England a thrilling victory. Root was also instrumental in the club’s 10,000 runs in Test cricket.
Earlier, New Zealand were bowled out for 132 in 40 overs in the first innings with the help of four wickets from James Anderson and debutant Mattie Potts. Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes took one wicket each. All-rounder Colin D’Grandhome was the Kiwis’ top scorer with 42 off 50 balls. Captain Kane Williamson scored just two runs.
In reply, Tim Southee (4), Trent Bolt (3), Kyle Jamison (2) and Colin D’Grandhome (1) were all out for 141 in 42.5 overs in the first innings. Zack Crowley was the top scorer with 43 runs. Captain Ben Stokes returned for a run.
New Zealand were bowled out for 285 in 91.3 overs in the second innings, with Broad smashing along with Mattie Potts. England returned to action after a century from Daryl Mitchell (108) and a brilliant half-century from Tom Blendle (96). The Mitchell-Blundell duo added 196 runs. Captain Kane Williamson (15) was once again in tragedy. Potts and Broad took three wickets each while James Anderson took two wickets and Matthew Parkinson one.
In reply, England were bowled out for 69-4 in the opening over before Jamieson’s smashing errand, but returned with a half-century from captain Ben Stokes (54). The match was coming to an end with former captain Joe Root joining the fray. Root and Ben Fox gave England the victory in the first session on the fourth day. Route 115 * off 170 balls and Fox 32 * off 92 balls remained unbeaten. Jamieson’s four-wicket haul wasted.
