No Kane Williamson, New Zealand with three changes; Toss to England

Nottingham: New Zealand started batting in the second Test against England. England captain Ben Stokes, who won the toss at Trent Bridge, opted to bowl. Batting first, New Zealand scored 16 not out. Will Young (6) and Tom Latham (9) are at the crease. England are 1-0 up in the three-match series.

New Zealand will be without captain Kane Williamson after Kovid became positive. The team is led by Tom Latham. Williamson was replaced by Henry Nichols. New Zealand has made two other changes. New Zealand were bowled out for 285 in 91.3 overs in the second innings, with Broad smashing along with Mattie Potts. England returned to action after a century from Daryl Mitchell (108) and a brilliant half-century from Tom Blendle (96). The Mitchell-Blundell duo added 196 runs. Captain Kane Williamson (15) was once again in tragedy. Potts and Broad took three wickets each while James Anderson took two wickets and Matthew Parkinson one.

In reply, England were bowled out for 69-4 in the opening over before Jamieson’s smashing errand, but returned with a half-century from captain Ben Stokes (54). The match was coming to an end with former captain Joe Root joining the fray. Root and Ben Fox gave England the victory in the first session on the fourth day.
