Legal action against those who sell rice in violation of the fixed price

by time news

Jaffna District Government Agent K.Makesan said that legal action will be taken soon against those who sell rice in Jaffna district in violation of the control price set by the government.

He stated this during a media briefing held at the Jaffna District Secretariat on Friday (10.06.2022).

The current economic crisis has seen an increase in commodity prices.

Merchants must provide essential goods to the public at the most reasonable prices in order to avoid inconvenience to the public.

At the same time, the government has set a control price for rice.

We urge retailers to pay more attention to this issue and not to sell rice at high prices and cause more inconvenience to consumers.

At the same time the price set by the government is seen as a fair price and in the future we will carry out special monitoring activities through the Consumer Affairs Authority in Jaffna.

We will take legal action against rice sellers who violate the control prices through the supervision of the Jaffna District Consumer Affairs Authority.

Therefore, we request the Jaffna business community not to sell essential commodities at high prices in a manner that would cause inconvenience to the public.
