The Summer Game Fest officially started this Thursday during the event’s Kickoff Live. Presented by the essential Geoff Keighley, who admirably hosted more than two hours of show, this conference aimed to present the future of the video game industry and the many projects of around thirty publishers and developers. From the biggest to the smallest studio, everyone had the opportunity to present us with the new and future releases that will punctuate the end of 2022 and all of 2023. On the menu, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, The Last of Us , Gotham Knights, Resident Evil and more than twenty other colorful, intriguing or terrifying titles that have had the gift of cultivating our impatience. 14:36 – Street Fighter 6, or the rebirth of a flagship license
Placed at the opening of the conference, Street Fighter 6 revealed itself a little more through a new sequence of gameplay. The opportunity for us to learn more about its content and its different game modes, but also to celebrate the return of Guile to the cast of available characters. 14:32 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 keystone of the evening
The biggest announcement of the evening was undoubtedly the release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Scheduled for October 28, Activision’s FPS intends to follow in the footsteps of the excellent Modern Warfare of 2019, and bring with it Warzone 2.0, the evolution of the famous Battle Royale. During Kickoff Live, we were able to see the first gameplay images of the game, accompanied by some crisp details on its new features. 14:25 – What does Summer Game Fest have in store for us after Kickoff Live?
After the thirty announcements that animated more than two hours of show, we wonder if the Summer Game Fest still has some surprises in store for us. And the answer is, of course. We noticed the absence of very big releases during the conference this Thursday, in particular God of War on the side of Sony, and of the entire Xbox and Bethesda catalog. The good news is that it also leaves the next conferences the opportunity to surprise us, with the Xbox & Bethesda event this Sunday at 7 p.m. An event that you can follow live on the official YouTube channel of the Summer Game Fest.
The Summer Game Fest talk, presented by Geoff Keighley and streamed on The Game Awards Youtube and Twitch channel, airs Thursdays June 9, 2022 from 8 p.m., French time. On the program, a farandole of game presentations by many partners of the event, including publishers 2K, Capcom, EA, Activision Blizzard, Xbox and Bethesda.

This year again, the Summer Game Fest has been full of partners from the video game world who will be there to present their various games for the coming months and for the year 2023. The Xbox brand has also planned to broadcast not one but two conferences to take the time to show its entire catalog of games but also its cloud and subscription services. Let’s also mention the PC Gaming Show which, like every year, will give pride of place to games intended for computers, but also at the Capcom conference which should present the remake of Resident Evil 4 in more detail.
For years, video game enthusiasts had an appointment every year in June with E3, a show presented as the “high mass” of video games during which the various manufacturers and publishers presented their new products to come. For some time now, E3 has not been able to take place due to the health situation, so its direct competitor the Summer Game Fest has taken over. The Summer Game Fest is a festival organized on the internet to amplify the influence of conferences organized by various video game publishers. This is a period of several days or even weeks during which many events are organized for the marketing departments of different video game brands to communicate about their future productions. Each year, a major conference called “Summer Game Fest Kick Off” launches hostilities and then other conferences, also affiliated with the Summer Game Fest festival, are broadcast online.
What can we expect from the Summer Game Fest?
And many things. Although Geoff Keighley clarified that we should not expect everything and anything tonight, we already know that the event has some big announcements in store for us. We know in particular that Activision will participate in the event and will present to us the first images of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (the new, not the old). In addition, we can also wait for news from The Callisto Protocol, the original creation of Dead Space’s “dad”: Glen Schofield. There will therefore be what it takes for fans of shooters and for those of horror games, but also for those of comics, since Warner Bros Games has confirmed its participation in the SGF, and could show us images of Gotham Knights tonight. In addition to these large projects, other more modest announcements will obviously be on display, since around thirty partners should take part in the event.
A new presentation of Marvel : Midnight Suns, the tactical RPG from Firaxis that promises an XCOM-like Marvel superhero sauce, will also be there during the live Summer Game Fest. The official Twitter account for the event also hinted that One Piece Odyssey, the role-playing game adapted from the hit manga saga, would also be present during the live announcements. Something to please fans of the license, no doubt. Also note that it is during the Sumer Game Fest that Frost Giant, a studio created by former Starcraft 2 developers, will present its next real-time strategy game.
What won’t we see at Summer Game Fest?
Even easier than speculating on what we might see there, knowing what we are almost sure not to see at Summer Game Fest tonight. Because Geoff Keighley himself specified that one should not hope to see everything and anything during the three hours of the event. For example, it’s hard to imagine seeing images of Starfield, since the Xbox and Bethesda projects will undoubtedly be reserved for the Xbox presentation evening this Sunday. Nor should we expect much from Nintendo or Sony, who traditionally reserve their announcements for their own events.
