Will (and when) Xavi Pascual be appointed coach of Maccabi Tel Aviv? The Spanish coach’s agent denies that the Yellows are in advanced negotiations with him, and claims that it has not yet been decided whether Zenit will remain in St. Petersburg.
“Xavi Pascual has a valid contract with Zenit. He is expected to meet with team leaders earlier this week, and then the plan for next season will be clearer,” agent Vadim Mikhalevsky told the Russian press. “It’s no secret that there are some top clubs in the Euroleague that are expressing interest in him, but at this point all that is appearing in the media is speculation.”
Despite the statements, the coach is in the final stages of being released from the Russian team and the Yellows will sign him to a two-year contract with an option for a third season. Pasquale will bring with him from Zenit his Spanish assistant Inigo Sorsano. The coach is expected to try to bring a number of players with him from Russia, when Maccabi Tel Aviv will move towards signing players when the deal closes.
