kyiv announces that the connection between the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant and the IAEA has been restored

The connection between the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, in the south of the country, under Russian control since the beginning of March, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is restored almost a month and a half after the loss transmissions, announced the Ukrainian operator, Energoatom.

The connection was lost on May 30, “when the Russians cut off the Ukrainian mobile operator Vodafone at Energodar”, site of the power plant, “with which the IAEA has a data transmission contract”, Energoatom said in a press release.

“Thanks to the joint efforts of Energoatom and Vodafone, on Friday June 10, the connection between the site’s nuclear material monitoring servers and the IAEA was restored,” Energoatom added in this statement published Saturday evening on Telegram.

Since the end of May, however, “all data for this period had been stored on secure servers and transferred to the IAEA immediately after the connection was restored (Friday),” the statement said.

The battle for the key city of Severodonetsk and its twin Lysytchansk looks increasingly violent.

He said the Ukrainian Air Force had destroyed ammunition depots and equipment in three airstrikes in the past 24 hours, without indicating the location.

“Fierce street fighting continues in Severodonetsk,” President Zelensky said on Saturday evening, while pointing out the recapture by Ukrainian forces of localities such as Tavriyské in the Kherson region, and in that of Zaporizhia.

The Ukrainian general staff clarified on Sunday morning that the Russians were carrying out “unsuccessful” assaults against Severodonetsk, stressing that the Ukrainian soldiers had also repelled the army dispatched by the Kremlin near Vrubivka, Mykolaevka or Vasyivka.
