Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has 50 crore kg of coal in reserve. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has five thermal power plants with a capacity of 4,320 MW. Following that, 5 crore kg of coal has been shipped daily since the beginning of May.
Apart from this, the Electricity Board has issued orders to two companies to purchase 48 crore kg of coal. Of this, 10 crore kg is coal so far. At present, more than 2,500 MW of electricity is available daily from wind farms. Production at thermal power plants has been halved to save coal.
