At the initiative of the Rachashi Lev Association, 27 children and adolescents with cancer and their families were hosted for a sumptuous meal at the Israeli super restaurant Pescado. The restaurant was opened especially for them and the staff volunteered at the event – but it did not end there. The meal was cooked next to Chef Yachi Zino by one of their friends, Omar Yussef, who was battling leukemia.

At the age of 15.5, Omar Yussef has been battling leukemia for ten months. Only 80 days ago he underwent a bone marrow transplant. Omar, a foodie in his soul who has eaten at his past in the past, has always dreamed of cooking and of course alongside a super chef. When Rachashi Lev initiated the meal at the restaurant, Omar told about his dream to Emuna Pinhasi, the director of activities and strategy of Rachashi Lev. “When Chef Zeno heard about Omar, he immediately invited him to join him in preparing the meal,” Pinhasi said. As Omar bounced the pan he looked at the fire and said “these flames coming out of the pan, re-ignite in me the desire to cook”. Evidence that he is recovering and returning to his old dreams.

At the beginning of the year, the Ashdod fish restaurant Pescado won 24th place in the list of the 50 best restaurants in the Middle East by the 50 Best Institution, the young competitor of Michelin lists. Winning is not self-evident at all, given the fact that this is a chef hidden in the dishes (in the kitchen), who almost avoided exposing his work in the media. His character is expressed in the spirit of the team, as he said: “Giving is always fun, but to see that you have chosen the right team, when your employees are fighting over who will volunteer on a day like this, it’s more exciting than anything.”

At the end of a pampering two-hour meal, Shai Tsabari came up to sing, inviting the children to sing with him. With great excitement, 15-year-old Geffen Bar-On from Beit Horon, who is dealing with tumors in her head, sat next to him. Sabri, who he and the musician next to him performed voluntarily, trembled with excitement at Geffen’s side as he applauded her.

“Both the sick child and his family need time off and refreshment and reinforcement during the routine of treatments and hospitalizations,” Pinchasi said from the heart. “Events like this give them this moment to breathe air. A taste of a normal life. Many thanks to Yachi and the staff for their pampering and loving hospitality, and thanks to Shai Tsabari who gave his heart. It is an experience that gives strength to continue to fight for life.”

For the past 33 years, the Rachashi Lev Association has been helping children with cancer and their families get the disease out of the child and get the child out of the disease. The organization operates in the oncology departments for children in Tel Hashomer and Ichilov, and conducts daily activities around the clock in order to assist children and their families in coping with the disease and treatments.
