From Tegernsee to Lake Garda

by time news

Ums to make it short: We want to cycle across the Alps on bicycles, in five days from Lake Tegernsee to Lake Garda, across the high mountains of Bavaria, Austria and Italy, want to expose ourselves to the alpine wilderness, after all, after these times and at our age sometimes out.

The plan

Andreas Lesti

Editor in the feuilleton of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sunday newspaper in Berlin.

To make it a bit longer: We, that’s four friends, we graduated from high school together in 1995 and in that distant past we cycled across the Alps right after the last exam. “Transalp” was a fairly new term back then, mountain bikes hadn’t been around that long either, and we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. But we’re still friends, and that’s saying something. Somehow the idea came up that we should do it again after 26 years. The same four friends, almost the same route, only we exchanged the old bikes for new ones. And that’s why this isn’t just a crossing of the Alps. It’s a repeat act, a serial novel, the second season of a body function test, and a token of friendship. It is a journey into a glorified past and at the same time into an adventurous future.
