Another Disney Plus moment here, and if it were possible to program an algorithm that would emit exactly at this point in time the TV series that is most suitable for the launch of the new streaming service in Israel, something like “Miss Marvel” would probably come out. Maybe just less Muslim. Yes yes, Marvel’s new superhero series at Disney Plus is about a Muslim girl of Pakistani descent, Kamala Khan by name, who gets her superpower from a mysterious bracelet (somewhat reminiscent of the bracelets from “Shang Qi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”), and is suddenly able to produce loot Luminous products from a crystalline alloy of hard light. Already cool.
This is a significant deviation from Marvel’s comics about the same character, who was originally able to change shape and become a giant, and the creators will want her for a variety of reasons, but in the end it’s a power to just be photographed much better in a series clearly for the whole family. The young Canadian-Pakistani-actress Iman and Lani, simply bring the cuteness to the max in a way that evokes empathy without the ability to resist. The first episode aired last week, the second episode will air just in time for the launch of Disney Plus Israel this coming Thursday.
How Naama wrote here only in her review yesterday? “It has a refreshing innocence and joy of life and is devoid of pretensions or plot complications of the kind that the Marvelous universe often brings with it.” And that’s exactly the point: “Miss Marvel” is finally a Marvel series that puts the pan before anything else. Maybe we were a little tired of dark series about dark superheroes or complicated series about complicated superheroes and it’s time for a comeback of a little innocence.
