Construction of special thermal power plant is sluggish

The construction work of the Ennur Special Thermal Power Station to be set up at Chennai-Tiruvallur is in a slump and it is to be inspected by a team of board officials today. There, two units with a capacity of 660 MW each are to be generated.

Case

The construction work of eight special power stations is being carried out by the Central Government, Bell. Project cost, Rs. 9,800 crore. Order for construction of power station, issued on 27th September, 2014. According to the contract, the construction work should be completed within 42 months. A company participating in the ‘tender’ has filed a case in the High Court against the order for construction work. The E-Board appealed to the Supreme Court against the case. Following the verdict in favor of the E-Board, the work was resumed from October 2016.

Project
There, power generation is scheduled to start in 2019. So far, only 60 per cent of the work has been completed and it has been decided to start power generation in the next financial year. However, construction work is said to be slowing down.
