Homosexual kissing scene; UAE suspends Light Year show
Dubai: The UAE has banned Pixar’s animated feature ‘Light Year’ from theaters. The ban is based on the fact that there are kissing scenes between gay women in the film.
There were reports that Malaysia would also ban the film. The UAE has said other Muslim-majority countries are likely to follow suit.
Expectations were high that the Light Year coming out after the Kovid expansion would be Disney’s biggest film of the year. Meanwhile, there are reports that the film will be banned.

This was revealed by the Media Regulatory Office of the UAE Ministry of Culture and Youth. Light Year cannot be shown in all theaters across the country. The ministry said the move was against the country’s media content norms.
The ministry said on Twitter that all films exhibited in the country were being evaluated and would be screened only after proper evaluation.
Information about the films being shown in theaters is already coming out. Following the announcement of the Light Year show, protests erupted on social media with the hashtag #banshowinglightyearinemiratse. Following this, the L.A. Times reported that the film was banned.
In the UAE, homosexuality is a crime under the law. According to UAE Islamic and Sharia law, homosexuals can be sentenced to death.
