Hebrew News – The Most Talked Movie of the Year: “The Worst Man in the World”

by time news

Nominations for an Oscar, Best Actress Award, and more, are just some of the buzz that Danish director Joachim Trier’s new film manages to evoke. With some of the highest viewing figures seen in recent years, you definitely do not want to miss this movie

The plot of “The Worst Man in the World” follows a girl named Julia who has difficulty finding her place in the world and especially within the relationships she has with men. This is an authentic portrait of a young woman in the 21st century, who is reflected through the male gaze (nevertheless, screenwriter and director) but still manages to move.

One of the factors that leads Julia to feel detached, is the fact that she has no friendships. In fact, even her partner, and her spouses, do not have that many friends. In the absence of a social life, the two fail to unload everything that is necessary and important to unload with a close friend or girlfriend, and this loads the relationship with quite a bit of tension.

Even in her personal life, Julia is not really successful. She starts studying medicine, moves on to psychology, then to photography, and is not sure she is making the right choices for her. One bright and innocent day, she meets Axel. From this point on, the film, which has so far been a kind of light-hearted and up-to-date romantic comedy, to a romantic comedy that is at times reminiscent of Woody Allen’s films.

Axel is 15 years older than Julia, and he makes a living from comics. From the beginning he warns her that they are elsewhere in life, and maybe they should help now, before it’s too late. But it’s totally too late. Julia is already in love to the top of her head.

The film consists of urban, small, minimalist scenes, wrapped in spectacular photography and great directing, which makes the whole viewing experience exceptional. It is almost impossible not to feel deep empathy and sympathy for Julia, and in fact, for most of the characters in the film, so it may be particularly easy to understand why he became so shattered and loved.
