Coalition officials briefed tonight (Wednesday) that despite threats of a vote boycott, MK Michael Bitton surrendered, and is now traveling from his home in Yeruham to vote with the coalition on an agreement reached regarding a duty exemption for eggs and honey.
He was further briefed, because he is coming even though Meirav Michaeli still remains in her position on the issue of public transport reform, which he strongly opposes, and because of all this he decided not to vote with the coalition.
In the Knesset plenum this evening, Agriculture Minister Oded Forer said: “One of the architects of the agreement is MK Michael Bitton. Therefore, he is ready to go up to the Knesset and vote tonight from his home in Yeruham.”
The vote is intended to confirm Forer’s orders regarding the import of eggs and honey, in another coalition struggle between Knesset members from the Labor parties, Blue and White and There is a Future, and Finance Minister Lieberman and Agriculture Minister Oded Forer from Yisrael Beiteinu, reached an affair in which the last two folded.
After all this, MK Bitton announced that he did not deserve to vote. Now the coalition is in trouble on the issue. Following this, the coalition lost a vote on agriculture orders regarding the import quotas of honey and eggs. 47 voted in favor of revoking the orders versus 46 who voted against the revocation
