The BCCI received Rs 48,390 crore at the end of the auction for the IPL broadcasting rights. The BCCI gets around Rs 107 crore per match from various sources. The IPL has become the second highest paid sport in the world. However, it is reported that the proceeds will be distributed among the BCCI franchises and players.

Eight teams will get 50 per cent of the Rs 48,390 crore received by the BCCI. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will get half the amount (Rs 24,195 crore). These teams will get around Rs 3,000 crore each. The newcomers, the Gujarat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants, will still have to wait.

The remaining half of the proceeds went to players and cricket associations in various states. Of this half, 26 percent will go to domestic and international players. Of the remaining 74 per cent, 4 per cent will be paid for staff salaries. 70 per cent will be distributed to various associations. From this amount, funds will be spent on finding new players and so on. While players get Rs 6,290 crore, various associations get Rs 16,936 crore.

The arrival of two new teams and the increase in the number of games have made the IPL even more attractive. The BCCI considers the arrival of new teams to be a great success. Therefore, plans are afoot to increase the number of games in the coming seasons. If there were 74 games this year, it could rise to 94 from next season.

Plans are afoot to hold the tournament as a two-and-a-half month long tournament from next season. The final decision will be made when the ICC’s calendar for international matches is released. The BCCI hopes that the calendar will provide an opportunity for foreign players to take part in the ongoing tournament.
