The history of Mother’s Day in the world dates back to the 1860s. Since 1914 Mother’s Day has been declared a national day. The custom of celebrating mothers made way for the celebration of fathers as well. Thus begins the history of Father’s Day from 1908.
By 1907, 362 people had been killed in an explosion at a coal mine in West Virginia. In their honor, a church service was held in 1908 in a church in West Virginia. It was seen as the first event held to pay homage to fathers.
Father’s Day Request:
The following year, Sonara Smart Dot called for Father’s Day to be declared a national day. Todd is one of six children raised by a father. Todd thought that mothers should be given the same respect as fathers.
He has been petitioning the local community and government for a year to celebrate Father’s Day. At his request, Washington granted permission to hold the first official Father’s Day celebration on June 19, 1910.
World’s First Father’s Day:
For many years now, Father’s Day has been celebrated around the world on June 19. It has been almost sixty years since Father’s Day was recognized as a federal holiday. Massive protests were reported at the time to celebrate the two days.

And for some as a family, they’re the only ones earning a living. They do not want to waste their hard earned money on flowers and chocolates. Including The Great Depression and World War II, they emphasized the need to celebrate Father’s Day.
Father’s Day was observed as a gift-giving holiday during times of stress and war. Father’s Day was then observed to celebrate fathers living abroad. Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June in most American and European countries.
Father’s Day, St. Joseph’s Day, is celebrated on May 19 in most Catholic countries, especially in Latin America. Celebrated on the first Sunday of September in the Pacific countries of Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
