Those living with cancer need specific care

A growing group of patients are living longer after being diagnosed with cancer. Cancer is not an immediate death sentence for them, but they are not curable either. Healthcare is not yet sufficiently equipped for the unique mix of questions of these patients.

Mr. De Jong is 72 years old and now that he has handed over his carpentry business to his son, he and his wife are enjoying his retirement. After several months of increasing fatigue, he started experiencing rectal bleeding. There appears to be extensive metastatic colon carcinoma. The disease cannot be cured.
