Oppo, Qualcomm and Ericsson together to improve slicing in 5G

by time news

Oppo announced the successful testing of a 5G Enterprise Network Slicing pre-commercial solution, carried out in collaboration with Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies. The creation of this solution marks an important step towards the concrete implementation of 5G Enterprise Network Slicing and is designed to be used by network operators around the world. During this first demonstration, OPPO worked closely with Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies to make the connection between the core network, the wireless network and the chip module. Using the Oppo Find X5 Pro smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform, the joint team demonstrated application partitioning and network traffic. This allows you to direct business applications and services with specific requirements to predefined portions of the network, without having to switch devices. With this new solution, applications capable of accessing the dedicated portion of the network are easily identified by means of a small icon that appears next to the main one of the mobile application.

5G Network Slicing allows you to create independent virtual network “slices” with different network properties, including latency, bandwidth, security and reliability, based on the needs of those connecting to the network. For example, you can create a dedicated network with high bandwidth and low latency for assisted driving applications, providing assurance that devices receive the level of data accuracy and compute flow they need to ensure it the security. Network slices can also be created for specific games or platforms, providing users with faster connectivity that is independent of the rest of the traffic on the network. In IoT applications, portions of the network set up with low latency and high reliability with a large number of connected devices will help provide the foundation for more efficient operations.

“5G Enterprise Network Slicing is the key to building differentiated 5G applications,” said Xia Yang, Senior Director of OPPO’s Carrier Product Line. “Based on our corporate mission ‘Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World’, we will leverage on our strengths in innovation and collaboration across the technology ecosystem to advance the commercialization of 5G enterprise slicing technology. Together with our partners, we will enable a wide range of OPPO product users to be the first to enjoy a personalized 5G connectivity experience “. Monica Zethzon, Head of Solution Area Packet Core at Ericsson’s Cloud Software and Services Business Area, said: “5G Enterprise Network Slicing enables enterprises to meet their network security, reliability and flexibility needs. This solution, created in partnership with OPPO and Qualcomm Technologies and backed by Ericsson’s 5G Core and 5G RAN Slicing dual-mode technologies, it provides a solid foundation for communications service providers, enabling them to offer even more personalized 5G services for businesses. “
