After the violently repressed demonstrations in the spring of 2021 in Colombia and the rise of social demands that were never satisfied, in a climate of insecurity and growing inequalities, the polls had consolidated month after month the lead of Gustavo Petro, defeated candidate in the second round of the 2018 presidential election, which had consecrated Iván Duque at the head of the country. The pirated copies of his autobiography, “Petro, one life, many lives”, published last October and sold on every street corner in Bogotá since, were an additional clue to this announced victory.
