‘Nishidhoykku’, the first film produced by the State Film Development Corporation’s women-directed film project, is back. The film, written and directed by Tara Ramanujan, won the Best Picture award at the Ottawa Indian Film Festival Awards (OIFFA).

The OIFFA award follows the State Film Award for Best Second Film
OIFFA is a Canadian film festival for Indian films, expatriate filmmakers and Indian-themed films. Fourteen feature films and five short films were screened at the festival, which ran online from June 14 to 18.

The Corporation launched the ‘Women Directed Film’ project to support women directors and promote creativity. It produces two films a year.

Divorce, directed by newcomer IG Mini, is another film that has been completed under the project. It will hit theaters before Onam. Nishidho will be released after Onam. The government has exempted both films from entertainment tax. Tara Ramanujan won the KR Mohanan Award for Best Debut Director in India at Nishidho at the 26th Kerala International Film Festival. It will give confidence to women directors who want to be a part of the Film Development Corporation’s initiative, said Chairman Shaji N Karun.
